Hebei cracks down on inferior foods

SHIJIAZHUANG, July 3(Xinhuanet)-- The provincial Administration of Industry and Commerce of north China's Hebei Province has launched a move to crack down on fake and shoddy food products and has so far dealt with 2,000 such cases.

According to Jin Hongjun, deputy director of the administration, there have been frequent occurrences of the fake and shoddy foods on the markets which are detrimental to the people's health.

The inferior-quality food products in the markets involve rice,beancurd, vermicelle made from the bean starch, milk powder and other varieties of food.

And the prevalence of such fake and shoddy foods in the marketshas aroused strong reaction and indignation of the masses of consumers, the official said.

Since the start of this year, Hebei Province has launched a range of moves to curb the inferior-quality food products and has achieved satisfactory results, the official said.

The province has so far investigated into and dealt with 3,064 unlicensed food units, revoked 120 licenses for selling inferior-quality foods and destroyed 213 work units making and processing fake and shoddy foods, the official said.

Up to date, the province has handled 1,996 cases of producing and selling fake and shoddy foods and collecting fines totaling 5.98 million yuan(720,481 US dollars). Enditem
