Govet rectifies unauthorized collection of fees from farmers

BEIJING, Aug. 4(Xinhuanet)-- China has uncovered 13,000 cases of arbitrary collection of charges over farmers during the sixth nationwide inspection and paid back farmers 93 million yuan(1.1 million US dollars).

An official with the State Development and Reform Commission made the announcement here on Thursday.

Arbitrary collection of educational fees in rural primary and secondary schools, making up half of the unwarranted charges, has been proved a big burden for farmers.

In some rural areas, farmers have been asked to pay charges under multitude of names when they build new residence. In some other places, farmers are overcharged for holding funerals, the official said. Enditem
