BEIJING, Aug. 4(Xinhua)-- Spokesman of the Chinese delegation to the fourth round of the six-party talks acknowledged Thursday evening the existence of different opinions among the six delegations but emphasized that all the negotiators were endeavoring to narrow the differences.
At a press briefing held in Beijing on Thursday evening, Qin Gang, spokesman of the Chinese delegation, also said that the consensus the six nations have so for accumulated was a confirmation of the progress achieved in the previous three roundsof talks. All the parties reiterated that they should strive for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, stressing once againthat they would adhere to the principle of resolving the nuclear issue through peaceful dialogue, Qin added.
Qin said a common document should not necessarily be considered an indicator of the success of the current round of six-party talks, adding that the talks were inching ahead toward the denuclearization goal.
According to Qin, over the past 10 days, the Chinese side held 42 one-on-one meetings, including 14 with the United States delegation, 11 with the delegation from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea(DPRK), 7 with the Japanese side, 6 with the Russian side and 4 with the delegation from the Republic of Korea(ROK).
On early Thursday morning, US Chief negotiator Christopher Hillsaid that all the parties to the talks needed to clarify the principles for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
Hill said,"we really need clarity on the principles,(and)it is precisely the clarity that we are seeking. That is so necessary." Enditem
