Death toll of Liaoning flood rises to 15

SHENYANG, Aug. 19(Xinhuanet)-- The death toll of the flood caused by heavy rainstorms last Saturday in northeast China's Liaoning Province rose to 15 as of Friday afternoon, while 32 others are still missing, said the source with the provincial department of civil affairs.

According to the statistics from the department, about 1.76 million people in Liaoning were affected by the flood, which also toppled 24,256 houses and destroyed 130,000 hectares of farmland.

Xue Heng, director of the provincial department of civil affairs, said the provincial government allocated 65 million yuan(about 7.9 million US dollars) for disaster relief and have already relocated 206,000 people in seven cities of Tieling, Fushun, Shenyang, Benxi, Jingzhou, Huludao and Chaoyang.

The official said the department of civil affairs have sent five working teams to the flood-hit areas, organizing the disaster relief work. Enditem
