HOHHOT, Oct. 10(Xinhuanet)-- A series of explosions triggered byfireworks Monday morning have left at least five people injured ina village in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, villagers and witnesses said Monday afternoon.
It is still unclear whether the explosions have caused deaths, villagers said.
The first explosion occurred at approximately 7:40 a.m. in the Chaohao Village of Hohhot.
The explosions flattened some houses and broke most of the windows in the village. By 3 p.m., explosions could still be heard with thick smoke hanging over the village.
The local police have enclosed the village with a danger line, allowing nobody to go inside, witnesses said.
Villagers have been evacuated and firemen were dispatched.
Approximately five or six people were hospitalized, but it is unclear whether there are casualties, witnesses said.
Local police or officials could not be reached for comment.
The Chaohao Village has more than 1,000 households, over 80 percent of which make fireworks, villagers said. Enditem
