BEIJING, Oct. 25(Xinhuanet)-- China and Senegal resumed diplomatic ties at the ambassadorial level as of Oct. 25, 2005, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced here Tuesday.

Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and Senegalese State Minister of Foreign Affairs Cheikh Tidiane Gadio signed a joint communique on the resumption of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Senegal on behalf of their respective governments on Tuesday morning.

According to the joint communique, the resumption of diplomatic ties between the two countries is in accordance with the"interests and aspiration of the two peoples".

The two countries have agreed to resend ambassadors to each other's countries and provide convenience for the work of each other's embassies on an equal footing, the communique says.

The Chinese government supports the efforts made by the Senegalese government to safeguard state sovereignty and develop economy, the communique says.

The Senegalese government recognizes that there is only one China in the world and the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing the whole China. Taiwan is an inseparable part of the Chinese territory, the communique says.

The Chinese government expresses appreciation of the above stance adopted by the Senegalese government, it says.

After the signing ceremony, Li and Gadio held official talks, during which they had an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral ties and issues of common interest and reached broad consensus.

Sources with the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan also met with Gadio, respectively, on Tuesday. Enditem
