1,300 people back to prison for illegal bail

BEIJING, Oct. 25(Xinhuanet)-- Jia Chunwang, procurator-general of China's Supreme People's Procuratorate(SPP) on Tuesday said 1,300 prisoners were brought back to prison after being found by the SPP to be illegally on bail for medical treatment in 2004.

In a report on SPP's work on law enforcement supervision to lawmakers at the on-going 18th legislative session of the 10th National People's Congress Standing Committee, Jia said that in 2004, the SPP, together with the Supreme People's Court, the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Justice, launched a thorough inspection of cases involving illegally commuting sentences, illegally parole releases and unlawful releases on bail for medical treatment.

The SPP raised a total of 26,171 items of correct suggestions during the inspection and seized 1,300 prisoners who did not fulfill the requirements of being on bail for medical treatment, but were illegally released. Enditem
