China hosts Int'l meeting on sustainable urban development

NANNING, Nov. 9(Xinhuanet)-- A total of 122 experts and officials from 38 countries gathered Wednesday for a three-day meeting on sustainable urban development in Nanning, capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Addressing the meeting, Anna Tibaijuka, deputy secretary general of the United Nations(UN) and executive director of the UN Human Settlements Program, called for international cooperationin urban development.

The meeting was hosted by the Chinese Ministry of Construction in partnership with the UN Human Settlements Program and the European Commission.

Chinese Deputy Construction Minister Liu Zhifeng told the meeting that whether China can achieve sustainable development or not would have global implications.

Topics for the three-day meeting include urban management and planning, sustainable land development planning and housing development. Enditem
