Infectious diseases claim 686 lives in October

BEIJING, Nov. 10(Xinhuanet)-- A total of 686 deaths occurred from 23 kinds of infectious diseases involved in 304,172 cases in October in China, said the Ministry of Health in a report.

There were no human bird flu cases in the report.

The top five killer diseases were tuberculosis(TB), hydrophobia, AIDS, hepatitis B and epidemic cephalitis B, which accounted for 89.94 percent of all reported deaths, according to the epidemic report released on Thursday.

The top five infectious diseases were TB, hepatitis B, bacterial and amebic dysenteries, gonorrhea and lues, constituting 87.71 percent of the total reported incidence, said the report. Enditem
