6,331 foreigners repatriated in 6 months

BEIJING, Nov. 23(Xinhuanet)-- The Chinese entry and exit administration repatriated 6,331 foreigners who illegally entered the Chinese boundary from October, 2003 to March 2004, said an official with the Ministry of Public Security here on Wednesday.

Li Changyou, deputy director of the Bureau of Exit and Entry Administration under the Ministry of Public Security, said from October 2003 to March 2004, the Chinese entry and exit administration launched a crackdown on foreigner's illegal entry, living and working in China. During the period, 242 illegal entry cases were busted and 6,331 foreigners were brought back to their hometowns.

Since March 2004, he said, the entry and exit administration has busted more than 100 criminal cases concerning illegally entering and exiting Chinese boundary, closed down more than 7,000 entry and exit intermediary agencies, prevented over 800 people from illegally entering other countries for work and relieve more than 30 million yuan of economic losses for the state.
