HANGZHOU, Jan. 4(Xinhuanet)-- A fishing vessel sunk Wednesday off the Shengsi Island in east China's Zhejiang Province, leaving eight fishermen missing.

The vessel was operating around the Shengsi Islands when strong gales tilted it so much that water poured into the cabin. The vessel sunk and all the eight people aboard fell into the sea, according to local rescue team.

The vessel belongs to Huicheng Village in Wulong Township, according to the rescue team.

Shengsi Archipelago in east Hangzhou Bay is comprised of 394 islets and islands where the Yangtze River and the Qiantang River join and empty into the sea.

With an area of more than 500 square meters each, only 18 of the islands are inhabitable. Enditem
