Chemical plant leakage injures 6 workers in Gansu

LANZHOU, Jan. 11(Xinhuanet)-- Production at a chemical plant innorthwest China's Gansu Province has been suspended due to acid gas spill, which injured six workers on Tuesday morning, according to the local safety watchdog Wednesday.

The leakage occurred at 10:10 a.m. on Tuesday morning in a workshop of the Gansu Chemical Industry Institute. A chemical apparatus burst open under the pressure of drastic reaction. The spilled acid gas sprayed on six workers, leaving three of them badly injured and the others slightly affected.

The injured have undergone immediate operations. The chemical plant, with all the water and electricity valves turned off, has stopped production for inspection, said a deputy director, surnamed Zhang, with the city's safety supervision department. Enditem
