Railway peak travel days end

BEIJING, Feb. 14(Xinhuanet)-- With the traditional Lantern Festival, trail of the 15-day Chinese Lunar New Year season, passing on Feb. 12, peak travel days of the railways also ended.

Statistics with the Ministry of Railways show that after the passenger flow rate remained more than four million person-times, it registered 3.788 million and 3.728 million on Feb. 12 and 13 respectively.

Up to Feb. 13, railways carried passengers of 114 million person-times, 6.482 million more than the same period of last year. Among the total, 61.793 million person-times were sent after the Spring Festival, hitting a new high.

After the Spring Festival, railways carried two million students and five million more will be carried in the coming ten days as a new semester will begin.

The Ministry of Communications said passengers travelling by highways reached 55.22 million Feb. 14, a little less than that on Feb. 13.

Most passengers took long-distance buses, mainly from Sichuan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Guizhou provinces to the Pearl River Delta area, the Yangtze River Delta area, Beijing and Tianjin.

The ministry said 775,000 people will travel by waterways, 3.1 percent less than during the same period of last year. Enditem
