China to improve medical care for farmers

BEIJING,Feb. 21(Xinhuanet)-- The Chinese government will plough more money into medical care for more than 800 million rural dwellers in 2006, according to a major policy document issued Tuesday.

The document, jointly issued by the Chinese Communist Party(CPC) Central Committee and the State Council-- China's cabinet-- said both central- and local-government subsidies for medical care in rural areas will increase"by big margins."

Different levels of governments will increase investment for township-level hospitals and other medical help for farmers, it said, to better control epidemic and endemic diseases and diseasesattacking both human and livestock.

It said the budget for training rural doctors will also rise, calling for urban doctors to work part-time in rural areas and various non-government bodies to get involved in medical care work in the countryside. Enditem
