Cold snap hits north, rain lashes south
2006-04-09 06:26:05 Xinhua English
BEIJING, April 9(Xinhua)-- A cold front is forecast to hit China in the next three days bringing a chill to the north and strong rains to the south, according to the China Meteorological Administration(CMA) on Sunday.

Most of the country will see temperature drops of 8 to 12 degrees Celsius and some places will experience falls of 14 to 16 degrees Celsius.

The cold air from western Siberia arrived at the northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Sunday and is expected to move southeastward.

Strong winds will affect most of North China and sand storms will blanket areas in the north.

The cold is expected to damage crops, but should also help relieve the prolonged drought in North China, according to CMA meteorologists. Enditem
