Beijing adds more buses to relieve transport pressure
2006-05-02 00:23:26 Xinhua English
BEIJING, May 2(Xinhua)-- The Chinese capital has added 1184 buses to lighten off the transport pressure during the seven-day May holidays.

Meanwhile a electronic monthly ticket will be put into use for people's convenience, according to Beijing News.

The additional buses will join the busiest lines, mainly running at the traffic peak from 7 to 9 am and 5 to 7 pm, the newspaper cited Wang Xinsheng, deputy manager from the Beijing bus group, as saying.

These buses will help improve the efficiency and increase busload, so as to ease the transport pressure. Taking the bus No. 345 as an example, after the measure is adopted, the frequency of buses running in this line will be increased from every 68 buses per hour to 76 per hour.

As for the bus No. 300 running along the Third Ring Road, with the newly-added 25 buses, every 2 minutes there will be a bus arriving at the stop.

About 822.4 thousand monthly paper tickets, both bus and subway tickets, have been transfered into electronic cards in April. There are still 600 thousand paper tickets remaining unchanged for electronic ones. enditem
