Beijing restaurants to jointly help poor mothers

BEIJING, May 5(Xinhua)-- The Beijing association of catering businesses plans to launch a charity program on May 14, the Mother's Day, in collaboration with the Happiness Program under the China Population Welfare Foundation (CPWF).

According to the association, its 11,000-plus members will donate money to poor mothers and set up over 10,000 donation boxes in public places for the same purpose.

The money collected by the charity program will be used to establish the association's poverty-relief efforts through the Happiness Program.

CPWF, one of the largest charity groups in the country. has in the past decade raised 310 million yuan (approximately 39 million US dollars) for its Happiness Program which has helped 150,000 poor mothers

He Luli, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), is chief adviser of the catering association of its charity program. Enditem
