HARBIN, June 5 (Xinhua) -- A suicide explosion triggered by a desperate ex-husband at a wedding ceremony last Saturday in Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province has killed at least nine people, local police said on Monday.

The explosion occurred in Jixian County of Heilongjiang at the wedding ceremony of a local woman named Li Jinling. It killed eight people on the spot and injured six others. One of the injured died later in hospital.

Police investigation showed that Lu Wenfeng, Li's ex-husband, had tied explosives to his body and set them off at the wedding. Lu himself was also killed on the spot.

Lu and Li got married in 2000 but were divorced in 2005. Local police tend to believe that Lu had conducted the attack out of his "resentment on his ex-wife" and "retaliation" was the motivation.

Further investigation on the case is still underway. Enditem
