BEIJING, Aug. 9 -- Prosecutors in Chongqing are charging a village woman with murdering seven people, including her husband and two daughters, and injuring 27 in a poisoning spree spanning 14 years. Zhang Zongqin, 36, in Chongqing's Fuling District, committed the crimes mostly to revenge trifle grudges, a newspaper reported yesterday, citing prosecutors. She had a daughter with her ex-husband, known as He. Zhang allegedly poisoned her to death when the baby was 2 years old in mid-1992, because the husband wanted a son. She had another baby girl in 1993 and killed her the next year, officials say. Zhang divorced He in 1995 and married Yang Renyou later. In 1997, she allegedly spiked her nephew's food with rat poison. The 12-year-old boy was rescued. Her two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law became her victims because they were "not nice" to her or "made her lose face," she reportedly told prosecutors. One of them died. She allegedly killed Yang's parents in 2003 after many attempts. She allegedly murdered one of Yang's friends who didn't invite her to dinner. Locals attributed the poisoning cases to a mysterious disease, because she also killed numerous livestock. The case surfaced in April when villagers found strangling wounds on her husband's neck after he died of her poison, officials say. (Source: Shanghai Daily)
