BEIJING, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- A ceremony was held on Wednesday to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Wang Jiaxiang, veteran leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Zeng Qinghong, Chinese vice president and a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, recalled the glorious life of Wang as he addressed the seminar. Born in 1906, Wang joined the CPC in 1928 before being promoted to a series of important positions within the military and the Party. Zeng noted that Wang made a great contribution to the Long March. The Long March was a famous military maneuver carried out by the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army from 1934 to 1936 led by the Communist Party of China to combat the Kuomintang Regime. After the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) in 1949, Wang led China through major reforms in difficult circumstances, Zeng said. Wang died in Beijing on January 25, 1974, at the age of 68. Zeng called for all Party members to learn from Wang "for his loyalty to the Party and the people, as well as his firm belief in communist ideals". Enditem
