Beijing sees unusually warm weather for holiday week
2006-10-05 01:15:16 Xinhua English

BEIJING, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Warmer-than-normal weather will continue in China's capital for the whole of the National Day vacation from Oct. 1 through Oct. 8, local meteorologists said here on Thursday.

Temperatures peaked Wednesday at 31 degrees Celsius, a record over the past 55 years for this time of the year, said Cui Yongyi with the Beijing Meteorological Observatory.

Beijing will continue to enjoy warm autumn weather over the next three days, with more clouds in the sky and fog in early mornings in some parts of the city, Cui forecast.

A weak stream of cold air will reach Beijing on Oct. 8, bringing rain and making temperatures drop by five degrees Celsius, Cui said.

Usually the weather has already turned a bit chilly in Beijing by the end of September and the first week of October. But a mass of warm air hovering over the city has halted cold air from the north for this year's holiday week.

Local meteorologists forecast temperatures no higher than 28 degrees Celsius over the next three days. Enditem
