BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- "Project Happiness - Operation Aid Poor Mothers" will help build a harmonious socialist society, said He Luli, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), on Friday. He, also chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, made the remark in a meeting with representatives of mothers who have received financial assistance from a charity program known as Project Happiness. He said the program, which was launched in 1995 by the China People's Welfare Foundation, is beneficial to the nation and the people. According to official figures, Project Happiness has given money to 154,000 mothers from poor backgrounds, benefiting a total of 690,000 people. Enditem
