28 trapped in N China coal mine fire

SHIJIAZHUANG, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Twenty-eight miners were trapped after a coal mine caught fire on Monday in north China's Hebei province, local fire fighting sources said.

The fire occurred around 11:50 a.m. on Monday at Fengfeng Coal Fields in Handan City, one of China's major coal production bases.

Sixty-three miners were working in the tunnel when the fire broke out, and 35 of them have been rescued by 4:00 p.m., according to local officials.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Enditem
