BEIJING, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Xie Fuzhan, director of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), has promised clean standards and self-discipline.

Making his first public speech at a symposium held here Friday, the top statistician said NBS would redouble efforts to improve the Party's work style and build clean government.

Xie said the management system used by survey teams would be reformed to make China's statistics more accurate, more scientific and more efficient.

Proposals concerning the organization of survey teams in 18 provinces have been approved. Lin Xianyu, deputy head of NBS, said the general principle and direction of the reform should be closely monitored.

Xie Fuzhan replaced Qiu Xiaohua as the director of the National Bureau of Statistics on October 12. He was previously deputy director of the Development Research Center of the State Council, or cabinet. Enditem
