One dead, 15 trapped in N China coal mine fire

SHIJIAZHUANG, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- One miner was confirmed dead in a coal mine fire in north China's Hebei Province on Monday, according to the provincial work safety bureau.

At 7 p.m., 15 miners were still trapped in the mine but 47 had been rescued. Sixty-three miners were working underground when the fire broke out at 11:50 a.m. at Longxin Coal Mine in Hecun town, Handan city, one of China's major coal production bases.

Rescue teams are still struggling to reach the trapped miners. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Enditem
