Three dead, five missing after bus plunges into river in east China

FUZHOU, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Another person has been confirmed dead and five others are still missing after a bus plunged into a 30-meter-deep river in east China's Fujian Province on Monday, the local traffic police said Tuesday.

The bus carrying 32 people ran into a truck on a provincial highway and tumbled into the river Monday evening, leaving three dead, five missing and 26 injured, said a spokesman with the traffic police authority in Yongchun county.

Three of the injured have been discharged from hospital and the others are stable.

As traffic returned to normal on the highway at 11:00 p.m. Monday, rescuers continued to search for the five missing people.

Monday witnessed another deadly bus accident, this time in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, when a bus plunged off abridge. Speeding and overloading were blamed for the accident which claimed at least 26 lives.
