Quarry blast leaves five dead, six injured in SW China

KUNMING, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Flying stones and rocks killed five people and injured six others after a blast in a quarry in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

The accident happened at about 5:00 p.m. on Monday after a controlled explosion in the quarry in Zhulin County of Wenshan Prefecture inhabited by people of Zhuang and Miao nationalities. The five dead were sheltering in a shed that was crushed by the rocks.

The injured were taken to a local clinic and were reported to be stable. A working group has been set up to investigate the tragedy.
