CHANGCHUN, July 8 (Xinhua) -- A road collision has killed eight people and left 16 others injured, three seriously, in northeast China's Jilin province, local authorities said on Sunday.

A truck crashed into a bus on a highway near Jindou Township in Tonghua County at about 5:50 a.m. on Saturday and both vehicles overturned, killing seven people outright, including the drivers of the two vehicles and five passengers aboard the bus, a spokesman for the Tonghua county government said.

Another bus passenger died Saturday noon after emergency treatment failed at a local hospital, the spokesman said.

Three people who were seriously injured are in a stable condition now, he said.

Investigations show that the truck drifted into the lane of the bus. Fatigue driving by the truck driver was blamed for the accident.

The bus was carrying 22 passengers when the accident occurred, and most of them were retired workers from Tonghua County out for a sightseeing trip in a neighboring county, the spokesman said.
