2007-07-08 19:01:04 Xinhua English

BEIJING, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Some 200 artists and officials who have contributed to the revival of traditional Peking Opera were rewarded at a meeting held here on Monday.

Members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Jia Qinglin and Li Changchun joined other 200 participants at the meeting.

It took 21 years for the artists to make videos for 460 famous operas which only had sound records originally, according to the meeting.

Their painstaking job has helped to hand down this valuable cultural form for future descendants, according to the meeting.
