SHANGHAI, Jul 10 -- THE only survivor of a shooting attack that killed three Chinese in northwest Pakistan revealed that one of the assailants had videotaped the slaughter.

Zhao Jianguo, now being treated at Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, capital of Pakistan's northwest frontier province, said one of the three bearded gunmen recorded the killing while two others opened fire on his friend and relatives, the Oriental Morning Post reported today.

"They broke into the house, yelled at them in the local tongue and asked for money," Jiang, Zhao's friend, told the newspaper.

Zhao is said to be grieving deeply over the loss of his son Zhao Yili and his nephew Fan Luzhi. Li Zhifei, a friend of Zhao Yili, was also killed in the attack. Zhao Jianguo declined to talk to media directly, the report said.

"The gunmen started shooting immediately when their request was refused," Jiang, who is now with Zhao, said. "They (the victims) didn't even have a chance to run. They ended up dead, lying in pools of their own blood."

The gunmen were said to have fled the scene in a jeep without taking anything after the shooting spree at about 9:15pm, the report said.

Zhao Jianguo, a native of Laiyang City, Shandong Province, survived the killing as he was drinking water in another room when the shootings occurred. His left arm was wounded in the attack, but he is expected to be released from the hospital today, the report said.

"My son and nephew were both killed in the attack and everything is over now," Zhao told Jiang, according to the newspaper.

Zhao and the other victims all worked in a tricycle factory in Khanzana, a town about eight kilometers from Peshawar.

"I don't know these gunmen and I have no idea why they did this to us," Zhao, a former soldier, told Jiang, according to the report.

The victims, who had been in Pakistan for almost three years, were said to be preparing to quit their jobs. They planned to return to China, the report said.

"The three were all around 20 years old and were the only sons of their families," Jiang said. "It's horrible to think that such young lives died in a place far away from their homes."

The bodies were sent to a local hospital. The families will decide when they are transferred back to China, the report said.
