BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- A series of commemorative activities among Chinese youth to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of Jinggangshan, China's key revolutionary base, kicked off here Sunday.

A contest on essays and digital artwork such as flash and cartoon about the legacy of Jinggangshan has started soliciting candidates, according to the commemoration organizer.

An on-line photo show and display of non-profit advertisements on the revolutionary base will also be held, the source said.

The official website of the event, named "Forever Jinggangshan," opened Sunday with plenty of history introduction and relevant backgrounds.

Covering an area of 661 square kilometers, the Jinggangshan Mountains -- where in 1927 late Chinese Communist Party leader Mao Zedong and his colleagues established the first rural revolutionary base, was known as the cradle of the Chinese revolution.
