XI'AN, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- President of Costa Rica Oscar Arias Sanchez said here Tuesday that he expects to see further development of the friendly relations between Costa Rica and China, and hopes the relations could benefit the two peoples.

Arias made the remarks during his visit in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, where he met with Governor of Shaanxi Yuan Chunqing and visited some historical sites, such as the famous terracotta warriors and horses.

This was Arias's first visit to China since China and Costa Rica established diplomatic relations on June 1 this year.

Arias arrived in Beijing on Monday, kicking off his one-week official visit to China as guest of Chinese President Hu Jintao.
