BEIJING, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Hu Jintao and his predecessor Jiang Zemin have mourned over the death of former Party chief of the Tibet Autonomous Region Wu Jinghua who died of illness on Oct. 19 at the age of 76. Other senior leaders including Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Zeng Qinghong, Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang also mourned over the death of Wu Jinghua, Xinhua learned Friday. Wu Jinghua, from the ethnic group of Yi, is a native of Mianning County of Sichuan Province, southwest China. Since he joined the CPC in 1949, Wu had held a series of Party, government and legislative positions of different levels. Wu was vice chairman of the Standing Committee of Sichuan Provincial People's Congress and vice minister of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission. When he was Party chief of Tibet, he also served as the political commissar and Party chief of the Tibet Military Area Command of the People's Liberation Army (PLA). He was delegate to the 8th, 12th, 13th and 14th national congresses of the CPC, member of the 12th and 13th CPC central committees, deputy to the 7th National People's Congress (NPC), and member of the 8th and 9th NPC standing committees.
