Xinhua News Agency pledges closer cooperation with Syrian media

BEIJING, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- President Tian Congming of China's Xinhua News Agency met here Friday with Elias Mourad, president of the Al-Baath Newspaper and chairman of the Journalists Union of Syria.

The two sides exchanged views on stepping up cooperation between Xinhua and Al-Baath.

Tian, also chairman of the All-China Journalists Association, said the exchanges and cooperation between the two news organizations have been expanded in recent years. He hopes the journalists associations of the two countries would serve as a bridge to further promote exchanges between the media of the two countries.

Mourad said media of the two countries have maintained sound cooperation over the years, expressing his hope that personnel exchanges between news organizations could be further strengthened.
