House fire kills five in Zhejiang

A HOUSE fire killed five people this morning in Ruian City, Zhejiang Province, Xinhua news agency reported, citing a preliminary investigation report.

The fire began at 1:25am and was put out at 2am as residents helped firefighters.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, according to the report.

An urgent conference was held in the city at 9am after the incident.

Wang Jianman, the Party Chief of Wenzhou City, which has jurisdiction over Ruian, promised that the government will punish people responsible for the fire, the report added.
