BEIJING, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- A senior official in charge of restructuring central departments of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the government has called for efforts to make the departments "people-centered, practical and clean".

Staff of the central government and the central Party institutions should ensure the reforms to go smoothly, and safeguard harmony and stability, said State-Councilor Hua Jianmin.

Hua, who is also secretary-general of the State Council and in charge of central institutions of the Party and the government, was speaking at Wednesday's meeting on the development and discipline of the Party.

The development of the Party in these central institutions should be integrated with efforts to build a service-oriented government, he said.

He reminded central departments of the principle "The Party is built for the public interest and exercises governance for the people."

He urged them to obey and safeguard political disciplines, make substantial efforts to resolve outstanding problems that affect the interests of the people, strengthen supervision and restriction of authority, and set up and improve a mechanism to punish and prevent corruption.
