Xinhua hosts new year reception for foreign guests in Beijing

BEIJING, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Xinhua News Agency hosted a Chinese Lunar New Year reception for foreign guests at its headquarters in Beijing Tuesday evening.

Some 200 foreign ambassadors, diplomats and correspondents in Beijing attended the reception.

Tian Congming, president of Xinhua, said Xinhua has adhered to reporting world and domestic affairs in an objective, comprehensive and sufficient way.

He said Xinhua's news report is aimed at promoting the mutual understanding between the Chinese people and the people of the world. He expressed his appreciation of the support given by the counterparts and governments of foreign countries to Xinhua.

Tian said as the host news agency of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Xinhua welcomes the foreign counterparts to participate in reporting the Games and will do all it can to provide help to the reporting activities of foreign counterparts on the Games.

Before the reception, the foreign guests watched a photo exhibition on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Xinhua's overseas bureaus.
