BEIJING, Jan. 30 -- Week-old Yang Bing slept contentedly in the arms of his mother, blissfully unaware of the trouble his parents had gone through to ensure his safe delivery into the world.
It was impossible to tell from the infant's peaceful face that just last week a frosty night and a kilometer-long traffic jam had conspired to endanger his very existence.
Only his name - Bing - hints at his parents' ordeal.
"We gave him the name Bing ("ice") to remind ourselves of that difficult time and to celebrate the preciousness of life," new father Yang Xianlong said on Tuesday.
The young parents still recoil in horror when asked about that snowy night a week ago that threatened the lives of both mother and unborn child.
The two, who work in Guangdong, were traveling home by bus to Shaoyang in Hunan province on last Wednesday when they got caught up in a snowstorm that eventually led to the closure of the highway.
