BEIJING, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- The White Paper on China's Efforts and Achievements in Promoting the Rule of Law was issued here on Thursday by the Information Office of the State Council.
The white paper, consisting of foreword, eight parts of statement, conclusion and appendix, touched on such topics as historical course of building a socialist country under the rule of law, legislation and legal system with Chinese characteristics, legal systems of respecting and safeguarding human rights, and other social and economic ones.
The white paper said the Chinese people have made protracted and unremitting struggles for democracy, freedom, equality and the building of a country under the rule of law. To govern the country according to law and build a socialist country under the rule of law is the Chinese people's demand, pursuit and practice.
The Communist Party of China (CPC) has led the Chinese in successfully opening up a road of socialism with Chinese characteristics, said the white paper.
The Chinese people are comprehensively implementing the rule of law as a fundamental principle and speeding up the building of a socialist country under the rule of law, it added.
The white paper said that China is the largest developing country in the world. It is, and will be, in the primary stage of socialism for a long time to come.
"China's legal construction is still facing some problems", the white paper said, adding China still face an uphill task to strengthen education in the rule of law, and enhance the awareness of law and the concept of the rule of law among the public.
The white paper said the Chinese people are now going all out to build a moderately prosperous society. Along with the sound and rapid development of the economy and society, the rights and interests of the Chinese people will receive better protection and China will surely make more contributions to the development and advancement of human society.
