BEIRUT, March 3 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese Foreign Minister Fawzi Salloukh on Monday stressed the commitment of Lebanon to the one-China policy.
"Lebanon refuses any steps that could jeopardize the one-China policy," said Salloukh during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Lebanon Liu Zhiming.
Liu informed Salloukh of the latest developments related to the separation steps by Taiwan through organizing a referendum on joining the United Nations, expressing China's opposition to this step.
Liu also reiterated the Chinese government's adherence to national unity considering Taiwan is a part of China.
Salloukh, for his part, said that Lebanon joins the majority of countries in the world which refuse to acknowledge the legality of any separation steps by Taiwan, in accordance with international law and legality of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He also voiced Lebanon's support to the Sino-Arab Cooperation Forum scheduled to be held in May 2008 in Bahrain.
