BEIJING, March 4 (Xinhua) -- People accredited for the Beijing Olympic Games will not have to worry about language barrier between them and the Chinese drivers under the help of a control center offered by the organizers.
Yu Chunquan, director of Transport Department of Beijing Organizing Committee of the 29th Olympic Games (BOCOG), said on Tuesday that a main dispatching center will include multi-language services for the drivers and passengers.
"About one fifth of the volunteer drivers can speak fluent English and most of them can manage simple communication in English," Yu said at the Getting To Know session organized by BOCOG.
"For the small number drivers that can not speak English, we offer multi-language service when it is needed from a main control center," he said.
"Volunteers working at bus stations can also help with communication," he added.
BOCOG has recruited 8,000 volunteer drivers and a total of 20,000 people, including drivers and dispatchers will serve for transportation during the Games time.
More than 7,000 cars, mini-buses and coaches will be used to serve about 50,000 accredited people including the Olympic Family members, media, athletes and coaches as well as sponsors.
