BEIJING, April 4 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese man who asked for compensation from his wife's lover after contracting a venereal disease has been arrested for blackmail.
The man, surnamed Huang, from south Beijing's Daxing District, was found to have contracted a sexually transmitted disease (STD) in a medical check-up on Feb. 21, The Beijing News reported on Friday.
A distressed Huang suspected his wife, Zhang, might have had an affair with other men who had STDs and then gave the disease to him, the paper said.
The woman eventually admitted she had had sex with another man, surnamed Liu, whom she got to know through an online chat room.
Huang then told his wife to meet Liu at an Internet cafe, where he and three other men apprehended him and removed him by force.
The newspaper said Huang then beat Liu, injuring him slightly, and then demanded 30,000 yuan (4,275 U.S. dollars) compensation for the agony he had experienced from the scandal. Liu was released after promising to pay the money in a written statement.
Huang and Zhang were later arrested for blackmail, the newspaper said.
