HOHHOT, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Two escaped convicts from Mongolia were prosecuted by the People's Procuratorate of Hohhot, capital of Inner Mongolia, for murder, weapons smuggling and illegally crossing a national border, according to a local source on Friday.

A 32-year-old Chinese prisoner surnamed Pang, whose name on a fake ID card was Yang Feng, was jailed for two years in June 2005 by a Mongolian court. He escaped over a wall with a 27-year-old Mongolian man on September 28, 2006.

The duo bought a pistol and 50 bullets before fleeing to China on October 21, 2006. They were nabbed in a hotel that evening in Hohhot.

Pang, a native of Hebei Province, was suspected of illegally detaining and killing a woman in China and seriously wounding a police officer. He also illegally crossed into Mongolia to dodge punishment in China.

Detailed information of his crimes in Mongolia were unavailable.

The pair will soon stand trial and the verdict is set to come out within one month, the local source said.
