Chinese, Russian media ink agreement to promote economic information cooperation

BEIJING, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The Russian News and Information Agency (RIA Novosti) has signed an agreement with the China Economic Information Service (CEIS), an entity designated by the Xinhua News Agency, for economic information release in China.

The director of the RIA Novosti Beijing branch Stanislav Krans signed the agreement here with Chu Guoliang, director of the Foreign Information Administration Center (FIAC) of the CEIS.

Liang Xiangbin, CEIS vice president, and the Russian Embassy to China information officer Alexander Isayev attended the signing ceremony.

Liang said the CEIS always attached importance to exchanges and cooperation with Russian media, and would continuously provide high-quality service for foreign information agencies on the basis of mutual respect and benefit.

Since the regulation, "Measures for Administering the Release of News and Information in China by Foreign News Agencies", was released by Xinhua on September 10, 2006, eight foreign agencies such as Reuters Asia/Pacific Limited and JiJi Press of Japan have signed agreements with CEIS.

"These agencies have witnessed outstanding achievements and increasing profits in their business in China," Chu said. "I believe RIA Novosti will see a rapid growth in the Chinese market as well."

Isayev said the agreement was of significant importance. Not only did it lay a solid foundation for further cooperation between the two agencies, it also established a model of friendly cooperation between Russian and Chinese media. This marked a brand new start for media in the two nations to deepen understanding and cooperation.

Expressing his confidence towards RIA Novosti's further development in China, Krans said the agency had a long-term relation with Chinese media. It would abide by the related laws and regulations in China and was willing to entrust CEIS with its photo products.

He said the agreement would help its China business. The agency would also like to work with Chinese agencies to push forward concrete cooperation.
