Former Shanghai Party chief fails to appeal bribery conviction

BEIJING, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Former Shanghai Communist Party Chief Chen Liangyu failed to appeal his conviction for bribery and abuse of power, which resulted in an 18-year prison sentence handed down on April 11.
The deadline for an appeal was Monday, and Chen did not raise a plea for retrial. It indicates that the original sentence will be imposed.
Chen's initial trial was held at the Tianjin No. 2 Intermediate Peopleˇ¦s Court.
