CHANGCHUN, April 28 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese farmer who killed six villagers and injured 10 others last year was sentenced to death on Monday by the Intermediate People's Court of Changchun City, capital of northeastern province of Jilin.

Liu Liliang, 39, stabbed a villager named Yao Wenda on Sept. 11. The two had been drinking when they began to quarrel at a market in Helong Township of Nong'an County.

Liu subsequently killed six people and injured several others in the neighboring village, the court said.

Liu was fined 1,000 yuan (143 U.S. dollars). The court also ordered him to pay compensation to the victims and their families. Liu had long intended to kill these people over economic disputes, the court said.
