China's CPPCC vice chairman meets Surinamese defense minister

BEIJING, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Abdul'ahat Abdulrixit, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, met here Monday with Surinamese Defense Minister Ivan Fernald, calling for closer cooperation between the two countries.

Hailing the progress of bilateral ties, Abdul'ahat Abdulrixit said China and Surinam had strengthened political trust and conducted fruitful cooperation in various fields since the establishment of bilateral ties 32 years ago.

The Chinese government attaches great importance to developing friendly cooperative ties with Surinam, and is ready to join hands with the country to advance bilateral ties to a new high, he said.

The Chinese senior political advisor also briefed Fernald about the recent riots in Tibet, and the country's principled stance on Taiwan issue.

In response, Fernald said his country values very much its friendship with China, expressing appreciation for China's precious support for Surinam over the years.

He said the Surinamese government would unswervingly pursue the one-China policy.
