BEIJING, May 29 (Xinhua) -- China is glad to see the holding of the first meeting of Nepal's Constituent Assembly (CA) and hopes the country's peace process will continuously move ahead, the Foreign Ministry said here on Thursday.

Commenting on Nepal's political transition, Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said at a regular press conference that China hopes Nepal could realize political stability and economic development.

China always advocated the principle of non-interference in others' domestic affairs and respected the choice of Nepalese people on social systems and path of development, Qin said. He added China was willing to work with Nepal to further promote the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two countries.

The first meeting of the CA on Wednesday night declared the country a federal democratic republic at the International Conference Center in the Nepali capital Kathmandu.
