Six police dead in knife attack in Shanghai

SHANGHAI, July 2 (Xinhua) -- One more policeman, who was injured in a knife attack on Tuesday in Shanghai, died of injuries on Wednesday, bringing the death toll from the incident to six.

The suspect, surnamed Yang, stabbed a security guard at a police branch in the Zhabei district of Shanghai on Tuesday morning with a knife, and then charged into the building and attacked nine officers.

Five police officers died of their injuries on Tuesday and the others were sent to hospital.

SHANGHAI, July 2 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Ministry of Public Security (MPS) has sent its condolence to the families of five policemen stabbed to death by a Beijing man on Tuesday, according to the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau website on Wednesday.

The message of condolence was sent around 6 p.m. Tuesday to the Shanghai municipal bureau to extend its sympathy and solicitude to the families.
