Chinese police detain 82 suspected terrorists targeting Olympics in Xinjiang in 1st half

URUMQI, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese police cracked five terrorism groups in the country's northwest Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in the first half of 2008. They detained 82 suspected terrorists who allegedly plotted sabotage against the Beijing Olympics, an official said.

Chen Zhuangwei, head of the Public Security Bureau of Urumqi, the regional capital, made the remarks on Wednesday at a conference on Olympic security, local media reported on Thursday.
